while it appears bad, and probably is for the local area, in the short term, it is most likely na mgood thing. the amount of radiation in the fallen leaves is enough to kill off the bacteria and micro organisms that normally break down the leaves. so this fire, which has been inevetable for years now, will likely reduce that radiation....hopefully to a level at which normal plane residue break down can once again occur. this would be a great step on the road to the return to normal for this area.
